Is it getting hot in here?

Bering Sea getting warmer

KNOXVILLE, Tenn.: The Bering Sea, which separates Alaska from Siberia, is undergoing profound changes from global warming, a group of scientists reports.

Lee Cooper, a marine biologist who teaches at the University of Tennessee in Knoxville, is one of the authors of a paper in Science that describes the changes on marine mammals, birds and fish.

"We've been working up there 15 to 20 years and we're really seeing changes," he told the Discovery Channel.

Warm water is being pushed up to the Bering Sea from the Pacific and through the Bering Strait into the Arctic Ocean. The scientists say that the changes in water temperature are a major problem in the Bering Sea because it is so shallow.

Jacqueline Grebmaier of the University of Tennessee, the paper's lead author, said there has been a major reduction in sea ice. This is bad news for walrus, which have been found starving on pieces of floating ice, and polar bears, which sometimes drown because they cannot swim from one piece of ice to another.

Grebmaier said there are also potential winners from the changes, with populations of some fish expanding northward.

This is not good, and I cannot stress enough the importance of global warming... The thing that really bothers me is the last line of the article... "Grebmaier said there are also potential winners from the changes, with populations of some fish expanding northward." SERIOUSLY WHAT THE FUCK,... That's exactly the bad science that has been giving stupid politicians fuel to say global warming is not a big deal... Absolute bullshit...
